Lawn care is not only a summer task. When temperatures cool, tall fescue may slow visible growth, but roots continue developing. Year-round lawn fertilization through a managed program supplies nutrients roots need for strength through heat, cold, and stress.
Pine Valley Turf Management designs programs for North Carolina turf—not generic national schedules.
Why roots matter in every season
Healthy roots produce healthier blades. Winter and early spring applications support root systems that carry grass through summer drought and disease pressure. Skipping cool-season visits often shows up as thin, hungry-looking turf the following spring.
Weed control through the calendar
Each season brings different weeds. Summer annuals fade while winter annuals such as chickweed, henbit, and clover appear in cool weather. Coordinated weed control with fertilization keeps turf competitive year-round.
Soil testing when results lag
Soil tests are useful when a program is not producing expected results. Most lawns on our fertilization plans receive appropriate nutrients without annual testing, but we recommend tests when pH, compaction, or history suggests a limiting factor.
Leaf cover and mowing in fall and winter
Heavy leaf cover smothers grass—especially new seed—within days. Keep lawns clear through fall and winter. Maintain tall fescue around three to three and a half inches year-round and never remove more than one-third of the blade at a single mowing.
